Every so often I'll get a call from a commodities trader wanting to obtain purchase order financing. Although we are eager to help them, we seldom can. Unfortunately, the margins for commodities are razor thin and po financing becomes cost prohibitive.
Most commodities sales carry margins of 2% to 5%. They leave very little room to cover financing costs. That is why many traders need to be well heeled - or - have great credit so that they can tap into short term bank financing.
